Soot scrubber: CE marking, IMQ certificate 297 and test reports

Artur Cokaj · · Updated

CE marking, type-examination certificate IMQ 297 and test reports 14LA11644 and 14LA11645: what each ETC scrubber document states and what remains to be checked on the installation.

ETC Group soot scrubbers have three types of document, each with its own number: the manufacturer's EC declaration of conformity, type-examination certificate no. IMQ 297 Rev. 0 issued by IMQ, a notified body, and test reports 14LA11644 and 14LA11645 from the laboratory ACCREDIA LAB no. 0656. Each document answers a different question.

What CE marking indicates

According to the European Union's official CE marking portal, by affixing the mark the manufacturer declares that the product meets the requirements of the applicable EU legislation. For NEWSCRUB AH scrubbers the EC declaration refers to directives 2006/42/EC (machinery), 2014/35/EU (low voltage) and 2014/30/EU (electromagnetic compatibility).

Product marking does not, on its own, authorise installation on the premises or flue gas discharge in a particular position. Machine conformity must be distinguished from assessments relating to the business, the building and the complete installation.

Type-examination certificate IMQ 297

On 16 July 2018 IMQ S.p.A., a notified body, issued ETC Group S.r.l. type-examination certificate no. IMQ 297 Rev. 0, file 50AR00040, for the soot and smoke scrubber with multiple atomisation system. The certificate records the verification of the essential requirements of Directive 2006/42/EC on models AH 250, AH 300, AH 350, AH 400, AH 500, AH 600, Clinear 250L, Clinear 300L, Clinear 400L and X/1.

For the CE marking of a soot scrubber, the involvement of a notified body is not mandatory. ETC Group submitted its range to this external examination. The certificate concerns machine safety; removal efficiency is documented by the test reports.

The dust test reports

A reduction percentage is interpreted together with the conditions under which it was measured. For ETC scrubbers the laboratory MADE HSE S.r.l. (ACCREDIA LAB no. 0656) measured total dust to UNI EN 13284-1 upstream and downstream of the machine, with samples taken on 2 December 2014: 516.5 mg/Nm³ upstream (report 14LA11644) and 24.8 mg/Nm³ downstream (report 14LA11645), equal to a 95.2% reduction.

From the machine to the installation on the premises

For wood-fired ovens and charcoal grills, the designer and the appointed parties must assess the path of the combustion products, the flue, the extraction and the discharge point. The checks depend on the application and on local provisions. A scrubber does not automatically make a discharge solution permissible and does not remove any obligations that may apply.

Preparing a complete request to ETC Group

For a NEWSCRUB AH proposal, send ETC Group S.r.l. the data of the cooking equipment, fuel, airflow, temperature and layout. The sizing guide for ovens and grills helps collect the information; for checks on the premises, see the article on documents before opening.
